Have morning and evening routines. My evening routine sets the pace for the next day. For example, I try my very best to clean while I cook supper to avoid a big mess after we eat. Also put the dishwasher on before bed and a load of laundry. I even prepare the coffee machine the night before just so I don’t have to deal with it in the morning. My morning is more relaxed… I wake up an hour before everyone else in the house. I like to do this to start the day off with a little alone time to drink my coffee and read, and I take this time to write down anything I need to accomplish for the day in my to do list! In having a night time routine I actually look forward to getting up to a tidy house!
Do a clean sweep. Set your timer for 15 minutes and see how much you can get picked up off the floor and put away (it will surprise you).
Have a designated place for everything. Try to put things in the right areas so it’s easier to keep track off and pick up!
Tidy rooms as you use them. I feel like the two rooms that get used a lot and need daily attention are the bathroom and the kitchen. I try to tidy these rooms as I use them and use organizing solutions to keep everything in its place. I like to wipe down sinks and mirrors daily as they get water stained, spray the shower and wipe it down, and Remember to switch out hand towels every few days to keep things fresh.
Regarding laundry I prefer a small to medium size loads everyday as opposed to a large load on one designated laundry day. Doing a small load keeps it manageable and easy. Remembering to fold and put away on the same day is essential.
Have a donation box. I keep a donation box ready so that whenever I see something that is not being used or is outgrown I just simply have to put it in the box. At the end of the week when I do the shopping I drop it off to the donation centre and I’m free of the clutter it could have created in my home. Tis better to donate than to accumulate they say!
